Housewife and boyfriend arrested for murder of ex-lover
Police in Mumbai have arrested a housewife and her current boyfriend for the murder of her former lover. The victim, Vaibhav Achrekar, was strangled to death in August, and his body was later thrown off a bridge near Vasai. The woman had been in a relationship with Achrekar for several years and knew him since childhood but had broken up with him a few months ago.
Jyotsna More, a housewife from Dahisar, and her current boyfriend, Pravin Patil, were arrested by Dongri police. More had informed Patil about Achrekar’s continuous calls to her and asked for his advice. In August, Patil, along with More and another male friend, called the victim to a shopping centre in Naigaon. They pretended to be police officers and asked Achrekar why he was harassing More. The duo then allegedly strangled Achrekar to death with a rope, took his body in a car to the Manor bridge, and threw it into the Bhayander creek.
Fishermen found Achrekar’s body trapped in their fishing nets two days later, and reported it to the Valiv police. The victim’s family, who had filed a missing complaint with Dongri police, identified the body. When police checked Achrekar’s call details records (CDR), they found More’s number had been dialled repeatedly. More admitted to the crime during interrogation, and the police arrested her and Patil on charges of murder and destruction of evidence. The accomplice, Michael, is still absconding.
