Police arrested five persons for the murder of engineering students Sharukh Firoz Khan Pathan and Nilofar Khalid Baig, who were found hacked to death atop Ramgad Fort near the temple city of Mahur in Nanded district on September 10. The five accused were produced before a court and have been sent to police custody till November 3, while the alleged mastermind remains at large. Despite the arrest, the police are clueless about the motive.
Police claimed that the five accused carried out the murder for a man who promised them Rs. 5 lakhs for the job. They have recovered the weapons used in the murder. The accused include Raja Raghunath Gadekar, Sheikh Javed Sheikh Husain alias Painter, Rangrao Shyamrao Babatkar, Sheshrao alias Pintoo Shyamrao Babatkar, and Krisha alias Babu Marotrao Shinde.
After weeks of investigation, the police zeroed in on Raju Gadekar, from whose house Nilofar's mobile phone was recovered.
