Wife Defies Death, Accuses Husband of Attempted Murder in Ahmedabad, Gujarat
A woman in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, miraculously survived after her husband pushed her into a river close to the Gulf of Khambhat, thinking she had drowned. Kanchan Vinzuda, 34, returned to her home in Vatva, where her husband Ramesh, 37, was shocked to see her alive. Kanchan had been saved by some residents of Bavalia in Bhavnagar district. She accused her husband of attempted murder, and Ramesh was subsequently arrested for the incident that took place on Wednesday, according to the police.
According to the police, Ramesh, a government employee and resident of Shahwadi in Vatva, got married to Kanchan 15 years ago in an arranged marriage. The couple has three daughters and a son. After a decade of marriage, the relationship began to sour, and Kanchan suspected Ramesh of having an extramarital affair. The couple often fought over this, and Kanchan even went to stay with her parents earlier this year.
"Ramesh, however, convinced her to come back. She says that he was behaving well with her initially. On Monday, she asked him to accompany her to Gulf of Khambhat for a religious visit. Ramesh took her to Bavalia on the pretext of taking rest for a while in the evening. While they were standing on the bridge on a river, he pushed her off the bridge," said a Maninagar police station official.
Believing Kanchan to be dead, as she did not know how to swim, Ramesh returned home and concocted a story about her death, claiming she had accidentally slipped and fallen into the river. When Kanchan returned a day after the incident, he was shocked and tried to escape. However, Kanchan caught him and called the police. The incident has shocked the local community, and the police are investigating the case to bring Ramesh to justice.
