PUNE, MAHARASHTRA
Three arrested for murdering 19-year-old over love triangle
Three people were arrested in Pune on Wednesday evening for the murder of a 19-year-old youth, Mayur Pathare. The body of Pathare was found on the railway tracks at Mundhwa on August 14, but the identity of the victim could not be ascertained. The murder came to light while investigating a 'missing persons' complaint lodged by Pathare's parents. The police have identified the suspects as Sachin Dagdu Kolhe (22) and Mahesh Chandrakant Agarkar (19), both residents of Vadgaonsheri, and Avinash Dilip Gawli (25) of Kharadi.
According to the police, Pathare was in love with a girl, but she deserted him and fell in love with Agarkar. Pathare threatened Agarkar and asked him to discontinue his relation with the girl. Pathare also thrashed Agarkar on August 10. On the day of the murder, Pathare had asked Agarkar to meet him at Mundhwa bridge at 6.30 pm for a discussion. But Agarkar suspected some foul play and entered into a criminal conspiracy with Kolhe and reached the spot with a rope and a knife. The trio had a heated discussion over the woman, and Agarkar and Kolhe thrashed Pathare and strangled him with the rope. Kolhe attacked Pathare with the knife, killing him on the spot, the police said.
The suspects took three gold chains of 11 tolas, Rs 2,000, and two cell phones from Pathare and dumped his body on a railway track in Mundhwa, which was run over by a train. The suspects sold the cell phones through Gawli. During interrogation, Agarkar and Kolhe admitted to murdering Pathare over a dispute relating to the girl. Gawli was arrested on charges of disposing of the cell phones.
