Struggling Scriptwriter Murders Aspiring Actor in Kidnap Plan
A 31-year-old scriptwriter, Shanti Deep Verma, has been arrested for murdering an aspiring actor, Sumit Tewari, in a gruesome incident of kidnap and deceit in Karawal Nagar, New Delhi. Verma had failed to sell his four creative scripts, and to make quick money, he befriended Tewari on Facebook and lured him with a role in an upcoming movie.
Verma then deceived Tewari into performing a role in which he tied himself up and later informed him that it was part of a kidnap plan for ransom. When Tewari resisted, Verma strangled him to death, packed his body in a briefcase, and fled. After executing the murder on February 21, Verma stayed in different cities to avoid getting caught.
The police arrested Verma from his native place in Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh on March 2. Several raids were conducted at suspected hideouts, and Verma was finally caught. His unsold scripts were titled 'Love in Kasba', 'Sampark Kranti', 'Mohlat', and 'Pehchaan'.
