Sahar police solve unique murder case, arrest three women – the mother, her aunt and grandmother
The Sahar Police have arrested three women, including the mother, for the murder of a seven-day-old baby girl in Andheri (E). The police were able to solve the case with the help of a medical receipt found in the plastic bag in which the baby's body was wrapped. The bag was provided by a medical store in Sion. The accused women have been identified as Bhagyashree Suresh Mandavkar (22) – the mother, Archana (20) – aunt and their mother Suchita (47) – the baby's grandmother.
The incident came to light after the locals noticed the dead body of the newborn floating in the nullah at Ruby Koch Road near Sahar International Airport. The body was wrapped in a plastic bag with a handkerchief around the baby's neck and injury marks on her head and left eye. Ravindra Patil, senior inspector at Sahar police station, said that it appears that the baby was strangled to death and then thrown into the nullah.
The police contacted the medical store owner, from whom they learned that the prescription was referred to by a doctor at Sion hospital. The doctor identified the mother of the baby after the police sent her pictures. The women then confessed to the heinous crime. The accused delivered the baby at Sion hospital, but her sister and mother left her at Chandivali and took an auto-rickshaw from there, where they killed the baby inside the running auto and threw her body into the nullah.
