Controversy Surrounding Kanda: Suicide, Allegations, and Resignation
In 2007, Kanda launched MDLR Airlines, named after his father and son. However, the airline faced closure in 2009 and eventually became part of Emirates Airlines in October 2010. Tragically, former MDLR air hostess Geetika Sharma took her own life on 5 August 2012, leaving behind a suicide note accusing Kanda of harassment. It was alleged that Kanda sent defamatory letters about her to Emirates and threatened her through various identities.
Kanda vehemently denied the allegations, claiming that he had supported Sharma by sponsoring her MBA course and appointing her as the chairman of a trust managing an international school. In the wake of the incident, Kanda resigned from his position as home minister in Haryana. Delhi Police later booked him for abetting Sharma's suicide.
The case took a tragic turn when Geetika's mother, Anuradha Sharma, also ended her life on 15 February 2013 in a manner similar to her daughter's suicide. The ongoing investigation resulted in Kanda being held in police custody, and another employee accused of harassment was in judicial custody. Charges filed against Kanda include abetment of suicide, criminal conspiracy, criminal intimidation, and sending false electronic messages.
